As an affiliate marketer for Vic Hutchinson's online training videos I started learning from the very programs I was selling. I started at the beginning with THE TANK METHOD. This is Vic's online training that teaches a person how to buy, set up, SEO, and maintain their own website. For any product, service or business you choose. Working part time marketing for a local company, I decided to build a website for them which gave them Internet exposure, and it only cost me $21 for the training and $12.95 for Yahoo to host my new website. That's it!

Vic's training is super easy to follow and I had my own website up and SEO'd in 10 hours (total). What happened next blew me away. Nothing, absolutely nothing. My website was buried among 56,400 other websites trying to sell the same thing to the same audience that I was. At first I checked every hour to see where Google put me. Then the excitement wore off and I started checking daily, then weekly. Three weeks had gone by and Google hadn't even indexed my site. The only way to find it was by typing in my Url exactly. On day 22 I got the message on my Yahoo small business control panel that Google had in fact indexed my website. Excited once again I started searching for my site and gave up at page 300. That is 3000 websites deep. No one would ever look for a business that deep.

Every day I received emails and phone calls from marketing companies offering to get my site on page 1 of Google (for a hefty fee) or to sell me programs to build automatic links for my site. The company I built the site for was even suggesting I pay for a "pay-per-click" ad. Vic did not teach us to link to the world and their brother nor did he like the idea of "pay-per-click." He said it's not necessary if you build your site right. But he did stress to be patient.

On day 30 I was tempted to dump the site and not pay my hosting fee, but I did it anyway. I paid close attention to the lessons and did everything Vic said to. On day 32 my site finally showed up around the 3000th website mark. Each following day it rose hundreds of spots per day until it settled in spot 13 on page two. Stayed there for about 6 days and crept onto the bottom of page 1.

In 6 weeks and three days my website went to organic search results on Google page 1 spot 2/3 (above the fold always), and Yahoo page 1 spot 1, and MSN page 1 spot 1. We've held those positions for 7 months now and made thousands of dollars from the search result exposure. I haven't added any links other than to the company's old website, a total of 20 out and 2 in.
